The 2020 Cadillac CT5 Luxury is appealing for a very different reason than the BMW X1 and X5 you asked about. The CT5 is a traditional luxury sport sedan—lower, quieter, comfortable, and elegant—and because used Cadillacs tend to depreciate significantly, you can get a lot of luxury for the money. What makes the 2020 CT5 Luxury special? The standard Luxury model has a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. That's not sports-car power, but the CT5's strength isn't really drag-racing. It's the combination of a smooth drivetrain, comfortable ride and rear-wheel-drive-based chassis. AWD was optional. One particularly nice feature is that Cadillac gave the CT5 a 10-speed automatic, rather than the CVT transmissions found in many modern cars. The CT5 uses GM's Alpha 2 rear-wheel-drive architecture, which is related to the excellent chassis philosophy used for Cadillac's performance sedans. That gives it good weight distribution and a much more sophisticated driving character than you might expect from a base Luxury model. You don't need the CT5-V to benefit from having a good chassis underneath you.
